Sometimes when we’re racking our brains to come up with a card design, we forget about the many card designs in the catalog. Stampin’ Up deliberately includes the card designs so we can either recreate them or use them as inspiration for our own design. Stampin’ Up calls it CASEing (Copy and Share Everything).

For today’s card, my inspiration was a buffalo check background card on page 70 of the annual catalog. What attracted me to the card was the purple and yellow which are on opposite sides of the color wheel and therefore are complementary colors when used together.

Measurements and Instructions

  • Basic White thick cardstock 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
  • Fold on score line and burnish with bone folder
  • Basic white cardstock 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Stamping Option 1 – Using a Stamparatus
    • Place your 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of cardstock onto your Stamparatus plate.
    • Place the Buffalo Check stamp on the other side and line it up so that it fully covers the cardstock when closed.
    • Open it up again and ink it up fully with your Gorgeous Grape stamp pad
    • Close the cover and press down over the entire stamp to make sure you get a good color transfer
    • If the color didn’t transfer evenly, ink it up again. That’s the beauty of the Stamparatus. You don’t have to worry about realignment.
  • Stamping Option 2without Stamparatus
    • If you don’t have a Stamparatus, adhere the stamp to a size F clear block, ink it up and place it face up on your work surface
    • Gently place the 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of cardstock on top of the inked up stamp
    • Place a piece of paper (i.e. printer paper) over it and rub it all over several times to get a good ink transfer onto the cardstock.
  • Once you have the Buffalo Check stamped onto the cardstock, adhere it to your card base using either multipurpose glue or Stampin’ Seal
  • Cut a piece of So Saffron 5 1/4″ X 2 1/2″
  • Using the Tailored Tag punch, insert one end halfway into the punch and press down. That will create a banner.
  • Glue the tag to the upper right corner of the Buffalo Check layer
  • Take a piece of True Love Designer Series Paper that has large black and white flowers on it.
  • Using your Highland Heather dark and light Stampin’ Blends, color in one grouping of three connected flowers, like the ones shown at the bottom of the image above.
  • Start by coloring in all of the flower images with Light Highland Heather. Because Stampin’ Blends are alcohol based, let it dry for a few seconds and then do some highlighting with the Dark Highland Heather.
  • Again wait a few seconds, and go over the entire image again with Light Highland Heather to blend everything together.
  • For the leaves, I used Dark and Light Old Olive
  • Fussy cut the flower image

For the sentiment, I used the Posted for You stamp set.

  • Stamp the Special Delivery stamp onto Basic White cardstock using Highland Heather
  • Next, stamp “Just a Note” directly over the the Special Delivery image using Gorgeous Grape
  • Then punch out the label using the Everyday Label punch
  • Pop the flower image up on dimensionals and adhere it onto the So Saffron tag
  • Apply a little liquid glue or Stampin Seal to the right side of the sentiment tag and tuck into into the left side of the flower image.
  • Make a small bow with the Gorgeous Grape sheer ribbon and adhere it to the flower using Stampin Seal which has great sticking power for things like ribbon. I don’t find that liquid glue is strong enough to hold ribbon in place.
  • Last, attach two purple Pastel Pearls to the bottom of the So Saffron tag.

Below is another photo of the finished card. My card is a bit different than the one I cased in the catalog. I put my own spin on it based on the supplies I had. And that’s what I want you to do. Make it your own. Use the supplies you have on hand and see what you can create.
