I know that many of you like to plan ahead for special occasion days, holidays and seasonal celebrations so that you have enough time to gather ideas and also have enough time to make your cards.

It is with that in mind that I am posting a Mother’s Day card. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 9th, and it will be here before we know it. It’s important to celebrate the women in our lives – mothers, grandmothers, wives, sisters, daughters, nieces, friends and everyone in between. Some are moms to their own children, while others are moms to fur babies. Some are second moms to the children in their extended family, some have “adopted” neighbor children, and some make a career of caring for children. No matter what role they play, they are all wonderful women we feel grateful to have in our lives. Whatever the circumstances, showing someone they are cared about is a gift of love.

I chose the butterfly design because it is such a beautiful and delicate creature. They are much loved when we see them in our gardens. They represent beauty, hope, change and endurance – all of the things, and more that we experience through the years with the women who grace our lives.

A beautiful handmade card from you will make the recipient feel special, because they will know the love and effort that you put into making it just for them. Make someone feel special today.

  • Cut white cardstock 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″. Burnish with bone folder
  • Cut another piece of white cardstock 5″ x 3 3/4″. Emboss using the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder
    • Use sponge daubers to apply a light touch of Crumb Cake and Seaside Spray from your inkpads. Not too much. Just enough of both colors to make it stand out and give it depth.
  • Cut a frame from Seaside Spray cardstock using the largest and 3rd largest rectangle dies. Place the smaller one inside the larger one to cut out the frame.
    • Adhere the top and sides to the embossed layer but DO NOT put adhesive on the bottom strip (you will be tucking greenery behind it so it’s best to leave it unglued for now.
  • Also cut a frame from the Rainbow Glimmer paper using the 5th and 7th rectangle dies. Again, place the smaller die inside the larger one to cut out the frame.
    • Adhere the frame to the center of the embossed layer
  • Stamp some greenery images from Forever Fern stamp set using Seaside Spray ink and die cut
  • Using a sponge dauber, use a light touch to dab some Crumb Cake ink around the edges of the greenery.
  • Tuck the bottom of one sprig under the bottom left of the Seaside Spray frame, so that it slightly overlaps the frame on the left. Do the same on the right. Refer to photo below.
  • Do your best to now apply adhesive to the bottom of the frame and tack it down.
  • Next, diecut two different sized butterflies on white cardstock from the Butterfly Brilliance bundle.
  • Using your sponge daubers, lightly dab Crumb Cake ink around the outside edges of each butterfly.
  • Change daubers and lightly dab Seaside Spray ink to the center of the butterflies. A light touch is best. You can always add more, but you can’t take any away. So, start light.
  • The next step is totally optional. I used a gold metallic paint pen that I bought at Michael’s all around the outer edges of the butterflies. You could also use a gold leaf pen if you have one.
  • I then brushed some Wink of Stella over the butterflies for some sparkle and added two small pearls to each butterfly’s body.
  • The Happy Mother’s Day sentiment is from the Strong & Beautiful stamp set which contains many wonderful sentiments that are perfect for Mother’s Day.
  • I stamped the sentiment in Seaside Spray, cut it 3″ x 1/2″ and put dimensionals on the back.
  • I laid the gold hoop onto the card and adhered the sentiment label over it. The dimensionals hold it in place. Once the label was affixed to the card, I angle cut the left edge so it didn’t hang over, and then attached two pearls.

I really like the delicate look of this card. I hope you like it as well.
